THE EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON THE DEPENDENCES OF AIR ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE

Since the current problems with the IEC standard IEC61000-4-2 and the immunity tests of air discharge，many researches have been done for explore the possibility of a kind of repeatable test method for immunity test of air electrostatic discharge(ESD).After a brief introduction of previous work，this paper investigates the dependence of air ESD on voltage applied and approach speed of electrode using a newly developed air discharge testing system.It has been discovered that it is possible to obtain repeatable test results using high ESD voltage and appropriate approaching speed of electrode.This important conclusion provided the foundation of developing standard method for air ESD immunity test.
