A TESTlNG RESEARCH ON SHUNTS PERFORMANCE OF THE LARGE FLOATING STORAGE TANKS
Standard requirement:The large floating roof storage tank must be electrically bonded through shunts around the tank roof perimeter.Installation intervals are between 1m and 3m.For some reasons the shunts are very difficult in forming conducting path to the shell.Lighting impulse testing of simulated tank show:Shunts which attached to the shell by its own flexibility can generate sparks when the lighting current flow reached a peak of about 400 Amperes.1f there are gaps between the shell and shunts during lightning high voltage stock,potential difference between the roof and shell may breakdown the gaps and cause sparks.It should take measures to reduce tank fire by lighting.Such as:regulating shunts installation intervals and model,widening safety distance of metal pans above the primary seals and secondary seals between floating roof and shell,increase the equipotential bonding device between floating roof and tank wall,etc.
