Brazilian Marble Cachoeiro do Itapemirim and Glass Milling with Waterjet
Abrasive Waterjet (AWJ) can be used to mill stone tiles as the white Brazilian marble from Cachoeiro do Itapemirim, and other materials, such as glass. In this process of the most advanced technology, there must be controlled, not only the kerfs width, but also its depth. The kerf geometry depends on three variables:the pump water pressure; the nozzle transverse speed and standoff distance to the target material. Low transverse speed, little standoff and low to medium water pressure gives a deep U form of kerr, due to the high energy concentrated along the entire beams width. A high transverse speed, high standoff distance and low water pressure results in a V form of kerr, whose energy are higher in the middle of the water beam, than in its periphery. This paper, try to discuss preliminary laboratory experiments and present the kerfs profile,as function of the operation parameters in glass and marble.
