The state and art of optimum production scheduling of open-pit mines
The solution of an optimum production scheduling problem for open-pit mines has always been a trade-off between efficiency i.e. practicality and optimality. According to the progress of computers and development of efficient algorithms, constrains for true optimum solution to maximize the net present value of an open-pit mine are getting more and more practical. An optimum production scheduling algorithm based on graph theory and Lagrangian relaxation has been improved. In addition to the increase in efficiency of calculation, dynamic cutoff grade concept has also been considered to take the flexibility in processing method for each block into account. The effectiveness of the algorithm has been confirmed by a case study of a gold mine in the US.
