Statistical Analysis of Heavy Metals Distribution in a Lead/Zinc Tailings Dam
The waste contained in two tailing dams connected to the Masua flotation plant (Southwest coast of Sardinia) has become the object of a land reclamation study which foresees its removal, inertization and repositioning inside the nearby Acquaresi mine. During this complex project, the material contained in the basins was characterised physically and chemically. The paper discusses the results of a spatial distribution analysis of heavy metals concentration. The total volume of the tailings dam involved is more than 2 Mm3 and the most important parameters analyzed are: grain size distributions, chemical composition of solid and leaching. Multivariable analysis methods are applied and the results obtained are assumed to point out an inertization method of heavy metals.
