Oblique section bearing capacity of reinforced concrete box beams strengthened with CFS

The oblique section bearing capacity of the reinforced concrete box beams strengthened with Carbon Fiber Sheet (CFS) was studied in this paper. The RC box beams strengthened with CFS were modeled by ANSYS based on the nonlinear finite element method. The deformation,stress and ultimate bearing capacity of the box beam were studied. Four RC box beams were designed and experiments were carried out to study the strengthening influence of CFS in different conditions of box beams being used. The damage of the RC box beams strengthened with CFS was observed in the whole loading process. The mechanical behavior and the ultimate bearing capacity of the RC box beams strengthened with CFS were analyzed. The failure mechanism and the strengthening effect of the RC box beams were discussed. The numerical results by the finite element method were compared with the experimental results. It is shown that the numerical results agreed well with the experimental results which verified the reliability of the finite element analysis method.
