Photochemical Decolorization of Direct-red 4BS in the Presence of H2O2 and α-Fe2O3 under Visible Light Irradiation
The photochemical decolorization of a azo dye direct red 4BS on α-Fe2O3 in the presence of H2O2 and visible light was investigated.The influence of H2O3 dosage,α-Fe2O3 dosage,solution pH was studied.The decolorization of 4BS was attributed to the forming surface complex between 4BS and α-Fe2O3 which facilitates the electron transfer from α-Fe2O3 to azo bond.Substantially enhanced by increasing H2O2 dosage up to 7 ml/l,beyond which concentration no negative results on decolorization efficiency was observed.No mineralization of 4BS occurred but only chromogenic group was destroyed in the photo-chemical reaction.Chemical adsorption of 4BS on α-Fe2O3 was critical to affect the decolorization efficiency.
