Study on the Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD)Reduction of Mining Wastewater by Modified Fly Ash
Mining wastewater is a sort of industfial wastewater emitted accompanied with the process of coal mining, fly ash is one of the solid wastes thermal power plant emitted. The utilization of fly ash as an adsorbent for the reduction of chemical oxygen demand(COD)from mining wastewater will achieve the aim of waste material handling wastewater.Firstly, the fly ash will be modified by chemical means to promote its adsorption capacity;then, laboratory experiments are conducted for investigating the COD removal effficiency from mining wastewater in several different conditions (effect of treatment time, adsorbent dose,pH values of the media and agitation soeed). The results show that the maximum COD removal efficiency achieved for modified fly ash is 83.49%under the optimium coditions. As for the pretreatment of the mining wastewater for comprehensive utilization, fly ash, which is low cost and further attaining, will be all ideal pretreatment agent.
