Study on Nitrate Removal with Nanoscale Zero-valent Iron Prepared by Hydrogen Reduced Goethite
It is well-known that nanoscale zero-valent iron (NZVI)has the high activity for nitrate removal, therefore, this paper carried out NZVI(14nm)prepared by hydrogen reduced natural goethite, then investigate the effect factors of nitrate removal, like initial pH value, nitrate concentration, dissolved oxygen(DO),iron-to-nitrate ratio, natural goethite grain size, and compare it with ordinary zero-valent iron (OZVI) through the static experiment. Results indicate that NZVI has little effect on the initial pH value during nitrate removal when compared with OZVI,and the removal rate of 90% within 5h was obtained for NZVI in reducing nitrate when iron-to-nitrate ratio was 40:1,and the nitrate concentration was 60mg/L. No nitrite was detected during the process.
