Status Review of Groundwater Pollution Restoration by Permeable Reactive Barrier
The permeable reactive barrier(PRB)technique developed from the 1990s is an in-situ processing technique, with no need of additional power, thus lower operating costs.Currently in Europe and U.S.,it has entered an engineering application stage widely and becomes the direction of groundwater remediation techniques while gradually replacing the traditional high-operating-cost pump-and-treat techniques. This paper simply introduces the concept.the reaction mechanism, the design and installation methods, the classification according to the different pollutants and the usual reactive medium, and some examples which can show the recent status of research and application of PRB,then supposes questions that need to be solved urgently and sees the prospect of the PRB technique.
