Ammonia Nitrogen Removal from Drinking Water Sources by Biofilm-Electrode Reactor
The biofiim-electrode reactor(BER)was used to treat lower concentration of ammonia nitrogen (NH4+-N) in drinking water sources. The BER in the study was divided into two spaces to complete nitrification and denitrification process respectively.Ammonia was oxidized to nitrate or nitrite with the action of nitrobacteria at aerobic phase,in which the oxygen was produced by the Ti-coated anode. And the denitrification was completed at anaerobic phase with the hydrogen produced by the cathodes of carbon rods. The results showed that using BER to treat ammonia polluted water was feasible and the removal rate of total nitrogen was affected by the C/N ratio, current and initial NH4+-N concentration.
