A Continuum-Based Discrete Element Method of Element Internal Breakage
The CDEM method is one kind of discrete element method based on the continuous medium which applies the discrete element method and includes thc calculation of the deformability of elements.Using this method,the dynamic failure process from continuum to noncontinuum can be simulated especiallv for brittle material.This paper mainly discusses a recent advance of CDEM developed on the basis of preliminary studies of our group,which actualizes internal breakdown of the discrete element.This approach can reinforce previous algorithm,which failures carl only happen on the interfaces between elements.In addition,one example is calculated using the approach,to simulate the compression test of a section of reinforce concrete.Depends on the results obtained,the validity of the model can be verified.
