Shear Bands Simulation by PFC2D Considering a Meshless Strain Calculation Method

In this paper the characteristics of strain calculation in discrete media is analyzed. Based on equivalent continuum approach, a nonlinear meshless interpolation method is adopted to calculate the strain in discrete media and a brief verification is made in two-dimension case. It indicates that the calculated strains are well matched to global strain and more suitable for problems involving localizations such as shear bands, compared with those obtained by spatial triangulation method.
