DEM Simulation on Granule Mixing in Rotating Drum:Influent Factors
Behaviors of bulk particle assembly during mixing in a rotating drum were investigated with both DEM simulation and experiment. The experiment indicates that higher rotating speed can significantly enhance mixing performance. The predicted particle profiles from 2-D DEM simulation were compared with those from the short-drum test, inconsistence was found and analyzed. In order to reveal the influence of individual physical property on mixing performance, numerical tests were carried out in which the value of the only estimated property was exaggerated while the other properties were kept the same as the comparing group. The comparisons demonstrate density, size are the key factors affecting mixing performance, and the effect of friction coefficient is less significant, however, segregation due to any of the factors can also be diminished when the size distribution of the assembly is adequate.
