PROPERTY OF ON-OFF FLEXIBLE SEAL COMPOSED OF RUBBER AND POLYMER IN SNUBBING SERVICE

On-off flexible seal is the important control component of BOPs in snubbing service to prevent well fluid from polluting environment.The seal has two symmetric half-circle sealing elements,which can be opened and closed according to operating state.To improve sealing performance and lifespan,the half-circle sealing element is combined rubber with polymer instead of rubber only.As an example,we use finite element method to analyze the mechanics behavior of the perbunan elastomer and nylon combining together.When fluid pressure 20 MPa acted on the sealing element,the maximum deformation is 4.1 mm at the bottom of rubber,and the maximum contact stress is 9.7 MPa at the interface of rubber and nylon.Furthermore the oil field experiment result shows that the sealing elements are worn to decrease 2.0 mm without failure under the 2100 m sliding and 10 MPa control pressure condition.Therefore,the combination on-off sealing elements meet the properties of reliability,resistance to wear and prolonging lifespan.
