MEASUREMENT OF DYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF VISCOELASTIC MATERIALS

An improved method of measurements of dynamic properties of elastomers is proposed.The method is based on the analysis of forced oscillation of a cylindrical specimen loaded with inertial mass.No special equipment or instrumentation other than the ordinary vibration measurement apparatus is required.For accurate calculation of the properties,a two-dimensional model of cylindrical sample deformation was used. A new method of determining the dynamic Poissons ratio based on measuring the dynamic strain and shear deformations of two samples manufactured of the same material is proposed.The numerical calculations of form factor were carried out for static and dynamic strain and shear deformations of a cylindrical sample.Empiric analytic formulas useful for practical applications in the wide region of Poissons ratio,radius-to-height ratio and the loss tangent as well as for a variety of modules of elasticity,densities and heights of the samples are proposed.
