INVESTIGATION ON SELF-ORGANIZATION CHARACTERISTIC AND CRITICAL BEHAVIOR DURING ROCK FAILURE

Phase transformation theory and damage thermodynamics theory is applied to research the critical properties of rock fracture and failure.According to self-organization theory,the popular trend of rock evolution around critical points is discussed.Results show that rock fracture mainly relates to its damage state,and rock failure relates to not only the damage state but also the stress state.Rock failure happens when damage exceeds its threshold and stress exceeds a certain value.These results can not only explain many engineering phenomenon,but also provides a practical method for stability quantitative assessment and unstability prediction of rock mass.
