INTERLAMINAR FRACTURE AND DAMAGE IN WOVEN GFRP LAMINATES AT CRYOGENIC TEMPERATURES
The purpose of the present research is to experimentally and analytically investigate the interlaminar fracture and damage behavior of woven glass fiber reinforced polymer laminates under mixed-mode loading at cryogenic temperatures using the improved mixed-mode bending test. The tests were carried out,and were analyzed using both beam theory and finite element analysis to determine the energy release rates at the onset of delamination crack propagation.A three-dimensional finite element analysis coupled with damage was also employed to predict the damage initiation and evolution in the specimens and to examine the effect of damage on the cryogenic interlaminar fracture properties.
