PREDICTION OF FATIGUE LIFE IN NOTCHED BODIES
Present concepts of life assessment of notched bodies have to be improved.The study of fatigue crack initiation and short crack growth on smooth and notched specimens of austenitic-ferritic duplex steel yielded crack shapes and kinetics of growth of short cracks.Similar type of kinetics characterized by exponential growth was observed in smooth and notched specimens.The parameters of short crack growth kinetics are useful in life assessment of notched bodies.
