INFLUENCE OF NON-COAXIAL PLASTICITY ON LOCALIZED FAILURE IN GEOMATERIALS
Theoretical predictions for the inception of localized failure are critically dependent upon the constitutive description of continuous deformation prior to bifurcation.Due to inevitable limitations of coaxiality between principal directions of stress and the rate of plastic deformation in a classical plasticity constitutive model,a 3D non-coaxial plastic constitutive framework has been developed to modify the classical coaxial plasticity flow rule. The present non-coaxial model is employed for predicting localized failure behaviors in a series of true triaxial tests.Comparisons between numerical predictions and experiments show that 3D non-coaxial plasticity model has given correct analysis of localized failures under true triaxial conditions.
