NEW MAGNETORHEOLOGICAL DAMPER AND ITS APPLICATION IN SEMI-ACTIVE CONTROL OF STRUCTURAL SEISMIC RESPONSE
The performance of a semi-active control system based on newly developed MRfluid damper is studied.A parallel plate model is used to investigate the MRdampers behavior. The comparison between the analytical and experimental resultsverifies the theoretical analysis of the developed MRF damper.Semi-active controlmethod such as Continuous Sliding Mode (CSM) controller is simulated.Excellentresults are obtained when the strategy is applied to control a model of a seismicallyexcited three-story scaled building. The results demonstrate that the MR damper hasthe potential for improving the seismic behavior of civil structures.
