EFFECT OF MICRO-VOIDS ON PHASE TRANSFORMATION IN A NITI-ALLOY
Experimental studies have indicated that commercial superelastic NiTi alloysconsist of particles and inclusions which can nucleate micro-voids.In this study theeffect of micro-voids on phase transformation and behavior of a superelastic NiTi-alloy has been investigated.An analysis has been made of axisymmetric unit-cellmodels with different micro-void volume fraction subjected to various stresstriaxiality states.The finite element results indicate that the existence of micro-voids can significantly reduce the martensite transformation stress.This effectshould be taken into consideration of constitutive modeling.
