MICROSTRUCTURE DESIGN OF FUEL CELL MATERIALS

A methodology for microstructure design of fuel cell materials is developed.Statistical continuum mechanics theory is used to link mechanical,magnetic,andtransport properties to microstructures represented.Texture,composite volumefractions,grain boundary character distribution,particle to particle and the voiddistributions are taken into consideration by using pair correlation functions andhigher order statistics.Effective properties for transport and mechanical propertieswere calculated.The use of scattering techniques provides 3-dimensionalinformation on two-point statistics.The information for microstructure is used in ageneral framework for microstructure design to optimize the properties of fuel cellmaterials.
