MICROSTRUCTURE AND HIGH TEMPERATURE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF HOT-PRESSED ZrB2-BASED COMPOSITES

Two different ultra-high-temperature ZrB2-based composites,ZS (ZrB2+20 SiC)and ZSC (ZrB2+20 SIC+20 Cf),were prepared from commercial powders by hot pressing at 2000℃ and 30MPa.The fracture surfaces of both materials at 300,600 and 900℃ showed a mixed mechanism of inter-and intra-granular fracture.The incorporated C fibers in ZS composites effectively improved fracture toughness,from about 4.25MPa·m1/2 for ZS to 6.56MPa·m1/2 for ZSC,and decreased the descending slop of flexural strength with the increasing of temperature,although 3-pt.Flexural strength reduced,from up to 508 and 410MPa for ZS to 355 and 310MPa for ZSC at 300 and 900℃,respectively.
