MULTI-SCALE VISCOELASTIC ANALYSIS OF 3D WOVEN COMPOSITES

A multi-scale viscoelastic approach for 3D woven composites (WCs) was pursued.Firstly, the micro scale and meso scale repeated unit cells (RUCs),representing fiber distribution in tow and periodic weave architectures of 3D WCs respectively, were constructed and periodic boundary conditions were applied to them. Then two viscoelastic models for resin and resin impregnated fiber tow were suggested. They were employed by the two scale RUCs to simulate the viscoelastic properties of tow and 3D WCs.Notable deviations of both local stresses and average creep behaviors in inner and surface regions are found.
