DETERMINATION OF DOUBLE-K FRACTURE TOUGHNESS OF CONCRETE VIA SCALING LAWS

A trend extrapolation method for determination of double-K,I.e.Initiation fracture toughness and unstable fracture toughness, was put forward via scaling laws derived from energy release-based size effect model and boundary effect model,respectively.Three-point bending tests were carried out with 6 batches of various notched beams in geometric similarity. The maximum dimensions of these beams are 320 mm in height and 1280 mm in length. The true double-K independent of sizes was evaluated by trend extrapolation. The results show that the nominal double-K are according with the scaling laws derived in this article and this method can be used to evaluate the actual double-K of large-sized concrete structures in engineering.
