COMPATIBLE CONTINUUM AND ATOMISTIC MODELS OF SURFACE DIFFUSION
A simplified stochastic atomistic model for high curvature surface diffusion is proposed based on a simple triangular lattice.An equivalent continuum model is derived from the atomic model and the similarities and the differences between them compared.The fundamental features of growth controlled by surface evolution are reproduced,mainly the natural appearance of atomic facets at lower temperatures.It is found that randomness and biasing need to be added to the continuum to reproduce the behavior of the atomic model at low temperatures.
