MICROMECHANICS METHOD TO SIMULATE MORPHOLOGICAL EVOLUTION OF PRECIPITATES IN NI-BASED SUPERALLOYS

An analytical method has been proposed to investigate the morphological evolution of precipitates in Ni-based superalloys. The elastic energy is calculated as the function of the precipitates shape based on Eshelbys inclusion theory and Mori-Tanakas mean field method. It is found that the elastic energy becomes minimum if precipitates adopt a certain shape when the external stress and matrixplastic strain are introduced. These results are in agreement with the rafted morphologies observed in crept superalloys.
