A fully integrated multi-band VCO design with capacitive coupling for WLAN/WiMAX applications
A fully integrated voltage-controlled oscillator(VCO) design for IEEE 802.11b/g(WLAN)@2.4GHz、 IEEE 802.16d(WiMAX)@3.5GHz and IEEE 802.11a(WLAN)@5.2GHz is presented. With capacitive coupling,current can be controlled by bias for demand respectively. It can reduce power consumption for other operation bands. With 1.2 V voltage supply,the power dissipation is only 6.52mW for 2.4GHz band、4.67mW for 3.SGHz band、 1.79mW for 5.2GHz band. The phase noise at 1 MHz offset frequency from carrier are -119.2 dBc/Hz for 2.4GHz、-119.8 dBc/Hz for 3.SGHz and -118.1 dBc/Hz for 5.2GHz. And chip size is only 0.49mm2. The VCO circuit has been fabricatedInTSMC 0.18μm CMOS technology.
