TAED-activated Peroxides Bleaching of a Chinese Fir CTMP

A CTMP pulps made from Chinese fir(Cunninghamia lanceolata)was bleached by hydrogen peroxide, sodium perborate or sodium percarbonate process with TAED as the activator. The TAED-activated peroxide bleaching could be performed at a temperature lower than that of conventional peroxide bleaching.Under the optimized conditions(6%H2O2 or equivalent),the CTMP with an initial brightness of 43.8% ISO could be brightened to 73.1% ISO,70.9% ISO and 69.8% ISO,respectively,by the H2O2-TAED,perborate-TAED and percarbonate-TAED processes. After bleaching, the tensile, tear and burst indices of the CTMP pulp increased by 48-74%,19-32%,and 37-54%,respectively.The bleached pulp also had higher brightness stability than the unbleached pulp,in terms of post-color number(P.C.).
