The Application of Headspace Solid-Phase Microextraction for Determination of Methanol Contents in Black Liquor

A new method named headspace solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography(HS-SPME-GC)was developed to determine methanol contents in non-wood pulping black liquor. The procedure was based on the principle of vapour-liquid phase equilibrium. The HS-SPME technique was used to concentrate the methanol in the black liquor, prior to gas chromatographic(GC)analysis. The extraction and chromatopraphic conditions were optimized. The optimum conditions for extraction were as follows: 60℃ temperature for vapour-liquid equilibrium,30 min gas-liquid equilibrium time,11 min extraction time,280℃ desorption temperature,5 min desorption time. The methanol recovery ratio in the black liquor was 89.64% to 102.14%.Furthermore,the HS-SPME-GC system eliminated the need to deal with multiple sample injections. The method has better sensitivity and precision than the traditional method. The study revealed that the methanol content in Soda-Anthraquinone(AQ)pulping black liquor of straw was 5.42kg/t o.d.pulp.
