EFFECT OF SUPERPLASTICIZER TYPE ON EARLY AGE HYDRATION OF CEMENT
Microstructures of early age hydration products of cement superplasticized with threetypical types of polycarboxylate ether type superplasticizer (PCE) were investigated and thenumerical eigenvalues of cement hydration products were analyzed. According toexperimental and analytical results, PCEs can accelerate hydration rate of cement minerals.Typically, acrylic acid type polycarboxylate based superplasticizers increase formation rate ofettringite, and maleic anhydride type polycarboxylate based superplasticizer speeds up theformation rate of monosulfoaluminate. Therefore, earlier hydration of cement and engineeringproperties of concrete are dominated by the type of PCE. Suitable choice should be madeaccording to application requirements of concrete engineering, and modification should bedone by blending retarders, air entraining agents or defoaming agents if needed.
