Maybe Lost in Culture Translation: A Case in Cross Culture Management
Based on depth interviews with several of top managers of a joint venture invested by first a Chinese company and a European company, then by a third party from South Korea, this case study describes sharp and tense cultural conflicts at two levels: national culture conflicts between Chinese, European and South Korea, and corporate cultural conflicts between those of the joint verture, European and South Korean holding companies. It puts forth key practical issues as follows: How to balance betweem the national cultures, between corpo rate cultures; how to shape an effictive corporate culture out of more than two national cultures, how to balance between thinking globally and acting localling, and how to coordinate international expatriates in terms of international compensation, work and family balance and management styles.
