Complexity Theory and Business Ethics Education
The serious problem caused by unethical conduct in business has aroused the public awareness of the significance of ethics education. However, no consensus has been reached on the definition of business ethics nor the way in which business ethics should be taught. In this paper, we will try to analyze the reasons why agreement is difficult and actually unnecessary to achieve by applying Complexity Theory. The first part focuses on the nature of ethics and business ethics. The second part introduces the Complexity Theory, while in the third part the application of Complexity Theory in business ethics education is discussed. Then we draw the conclusion that the diversity of viewpoints is inevitable, as Complexity Theory suggests, and hence, in the teaching of busi ness ethics, we should just Let a hundred flowers bloom; let a hundred schools of thought contend.
