The Synergistic Effect on the Strength of AOCC Pulp Following Treatment with Laccase and Hydrolase
American Old Corrugated Container(AOCC)pulp was treated with laccase, ceilulase and 1,4-xylanase in experiment. In this paper we report results from a study of the effects on the strength characteristics of AOCC caused by the three kinds of enzymes that were used in conjunction with each other. When handing the AOCC under the conditions of pH 4.5,temperature 45℃ and pulp concentration 3% for 2 hours, the optimum dosages of the three kinds of enzymes, used individually, were laecase 16U/g(with air injected),cellulase 2U/g and xylanase 5U/g.When handled under these conditions,AOCCs wet tensile strength was increased effectively(by 87%).The optimum sequence of enzymes was either xylanase at first, then laccase,or cellulase first and laecase last.Compared to the control, dry ring crush strength was increased by 27%,dry tensile strength by 18%,wet tensile strength by 54% and wet ring crush strength by 14%.According to fiber surface analysis by SEM,we have probed into the reason why the strength of the AOCC obtained through cellulase and laccase treatment was higher compared to the bland,it is concluded that the fibers handled with cellulase and iaccase or 1,4-xylanase and laccase in conjunction with each other had been modified to a greater extent than similar fibers that had been treated with laccase alone.
