Study on Recycling of High Wet-strength Paper with Hydrogen Peroxide
The recycling properties of high wet-strength paper (HWP)were discussed in this study. In the preliminary experiments, general acid, alkali, and mechanical methods couldnt obtain satisfactory results. Then sodium hypochlorite, potash permanganate and hydrogen peroxide were employed, among which the environmentally friendly hydrogen peroxide was focused. The optimal recycling method was obtained as follows: pretreating the HWP with NaOH for about 1h in 70℃ water, with the pH value around 11; then 2% H2O2 (w/w)and supplemental NaOH to get the pH value around 11were added and continuously reacted for about 1h in 70℃ water. The treated HWP suspension was finally defibrized with a standard method to get accepts.Such treatment produced pulp yield as high as up to 95%,and the recycled fiber reserved good strength properties after sheet forming.
