Recycle-Ability of Bamboo and Bagasse Fibers
This paper discusses the recycle-ability of bamboo and bagasse pulps bleached by CEH and two different ECF sequences to an ISO brightness of about 85%.After beating to 42~45°SR,the pulps were subjected to a laboratory procedure, similar to the papermaking process. The various bleached and recycled pulps were tested for WRV,breaking length,zero-span tensile index,fiber-length and light-scattering coefficient. It was shown that pulps bleached with the ECF-type bleaching sequences can withstand the recycling process much better than the CEH bleached pulps. This is particularly relevant for the breaking length and zero-span tensile index values where the ECF bleached pulps, even after recycling 5 times, still delivered better properties than the virgin CEH bleached pulps. The recycling benefits of pulps bleached with ECF bleaching sequences were observed for both raw materials tested,i.e.bamboo and bagasse.
