THE INFLUENCE OF VISCOSITY ON THE BAND GAP OF 2D PHONONIC CRYSTAL
The influence of the viscosity of host material on the band gap of 2D phononiccrystal is studied in this paper. The standard solid model is used to simulate theviscoelastic behavior of the host material and the fillers embedded in the host materialare still assumed elastic material. The elastic wave propagation problem in 2Dphononic crystal leads to an eignvalue problem by using the plane wave extensionmethod. An iterative algorithm is designed to obtain the eignvalue due to thedependence of elastic constants on the frequency.A numerical example is given forsteel/epoxy phononic crystal. The band gap of 2D phononic crystal (steel/epoxy) isevaluated for various viscosity constants, namely, relax time, initial and final stateelastic constants. It is found that the viscosity of host material can affect not only thelocation but also the extent of the band gap.
