AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON THE QUASI-STATIC AND DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF ALUMINUM FOAMS UNDER MULTI-AXIAL COM PRESSION
The compressive behavior of two aluminum foams has been investigated underquasi-static and dynamic loading, including uniaxial and two kinds of lateralconstrained tests. The results show a significant increase in the collapse stress of theclosed-cell aluminum foam in quasi-static case when lateral constraint is applied. However, the dynamic collapse stress under lateral constraints is surprisingly lessthan that in quasi-static case, and the difference between the three loadingconditions vanishes. In contrast,in both quasi-static and dynamic cases the collapsestress of the open-cell aluminum foam under lateral constraints is always higher thanthat under uniaxial compression.
