The Role of Technology and E-Commerce in Management of Global SUPPLY Chains
Value chain integration can provide multinational companies with tremendous competitive advantage in the global competitive arena.Effective use of supply chain technology, value chain analysis and the postponement strategy would allow a multinational corporation to rise above its competition and provide its customers exactly what they need-the right product at the right price when they need it(at the right time).Technology-based integration of supplies,logistics,manu-facturing especially with respect to postponement strategy, packaging and warehousing and distribution are the elements of this competitive positioning. In particular, postponement enables demand pooling which,in turn, enhances demand forecasts, improves warehouse management, and stream-lines transportation management.Managing these components of the value chain,as well as short-ening lead times, gives companies an international time-based(speed)competitive advantage. This paper addresses the role of postponement in integrating and managing the supply chain and,there-by,gaining time-based competitive advantage by multinational corporations.
