Circulatory assistance with an implantable Artificial Myocardium system

Patients with congestive heart failure need help where the heart muscle contracts.It is not necessary to replace the whole heart so we started the artificial myocardium development project.First,a pneumatic drive artificial myocardium was developed.A satisfactory cardiac-supporting effect was confirmed by animal experiment.In addition,we succeeded in a three-month durability examination in long-term animal experiments using an artificial myocardium.The next step was to develop an implantable device.An artificial myocardium was developed using a ball screw motor.To avoid stress escaping,an experimental ventricle cup was made.An animal experiment that studied the direct ventricle-supporting effect through this motor was conducted.Although cardiac assistance of the right ventricle was suffmient as a result of repeating the animal experiment,the left ventricle auxiliary effect was inadequate.For this reason,we planned to develop an electrohydraulic driving system.The drive system with which it is equipped between the ribs controls silicon oil.Energy is supplied through transcutaneous energy transmission from outside the body.The left ventricle and the right ventricle were assisted as a result of the animal experiment.Cardiac output increased,and blood pressure rose in the time series data during artificial myocardium support.Work to establish component engineering is now being carried out.A long-term animal experiment is planned in the near future.Since this device is not a pump,it does not have a valve and does not put the patient at risk of developing a thrombus.Therefore,it is also possible to implant this device to prevent slight illnesses in heart failure patients.It is expected to become an important artificial organ with a big market.
