An ERP research on attentional bias of graduates with high internet addiciton tendency
Internet-related cues have been shown to take effects on behavioral performance and physiological parameters such as event-related brain potentials (ERPs).In the present study we obtained EEG data during a modified dot-probe task using internet-related words and neutral words in graduates with high internet addiction tendency.Stimulus type effects on ERPs were tested by repeated-measures ANOVAs.Participants exhibited larger P300 positive wave components of the ERP on internet-related words than on neutral words. At Cz and Pz sites, the P300 waves were more positive in internet-related condition than in neutral condition. In the central and posterior areas P300 waves were more positive in the internet-related condition than in the neutral condition and this difference was significant. This study provides neurophysiological evidence that information processing of internet-related information is abnormal in graduates with high internet addiction tendency. The results provide further cognitive and neurobiological information for the internet addiction.
