The neural mechanism underlying the processing of facial expressions in the attentional blink:An event-related potential study
Under the attentional blink paradigm, this studyuses event-related potentials(ERPs)technology toinvestigate the neural mechanism of processing happy, neutral and fearful facial expressions in the presenceof different attentional resources.15 subjectsparticipated in the study. Results show that theprocessing of fearful expression evoked significantlygreater negativity N100 and positivity P160components than happy and neutral expressions.Itcaused enhanced P240 and P300 that in the conditionof abundant attentional resources. This revealed thatN100,P160,N300 components are only modulated byvalence of facial expressions, while P240 and P300components ares not only modulated by valence butalso by attentional resources.
