Design Method Of A MW Power Converter Module For Wind Turbine Application

This paper proposes a designing method for megawatt (MW) power converter of a wind turbine. This paper tries to discovery and analysis the influence of snubber circuit and LC filter in a power converter module. The primary target is to reduce the switching loss at a reasonable cost when the snubber circuit is added to the MW power converter (as characterized by a rapid dynamic response and high performance output). The power converter module design is reported and a model has been built and simulated using the values obtained from this design methods. The simulate results demonstrate the performance of the design method both for the snubber circuit and for the LC filter. The transform system is stable and the switching ripple is low with wide input voltage range. Hence, the design method and the simulation model provide a powerful tool to design a MW power converter based rectifier output. It avoids trial and error steps that can result in conducting experimental prototype structure.
