A GPS L1 Software Receiver Implementation on a DSP Platform

A GPS software receiver is contrary to an ordinary GPS hardware receiver.It performs all operations in a programmable microprocessor thus makes the system highly flexible.In a GPS software receiver this flexibility is very useful not only when different algorithms should be tested,but also in case where the GPS signals change.In this paper an embedded GPS L1 C/A code software receiver which has been implemented on a TMS320C6713 DSP is reported.The high speed transmission between the radio frequency front end and the TMS320C6713 is presented.Efficient acquisition and robust tracking loops algorithms for this GPS software receiver are analyzed.The experimental results prove the high reliability of the receiver.The convenience of upgrading software suit the GPS software receiver to the development of algorithms.The design provides technical guidance for the DSP based GNSS software receivers in relation to the multiple satellites system and multiple frequencies of the modernized GNSS.
