Application of Distributed Control Network Based on CAN for Series-parallel Hybrid Electric Bus

High-speed and simplified communication mechanism is necessary for series-parallel hybrid powertrain because multi-electric control units are adopted and much information is needed to be managed. The electric control principle of a type of series-parallel hybrid bus architecture, which is equipped with diesel engine, integrated starter & generator, traction motor, battery package, manual clutch, mechanical transmission and ABS,etc.,is studied in this paper,a distributed electric control network based on Controller Area Network protocol for the the powertrian is also designed to form a compact and high-efficiency control system. The control modules include vehicle control unit, engine management system, motor controller,ISG controller, battery management system,ABS controller and monitor controller,etc.. Vehicle control unit works as the supervisor controller to coordinate the information among all control modules. Actuating signals from the acceleration pedal and brake pedal are transmitted to vehicle control unit, where the total required torque can be defined and the optimal torque commands are sent to engine management system, motor and ISG controller through CAN Bus. The function of brake regeneration should be cut off when ABS is actuated. In addition,an on-board monitor & data acquisition system based on CANoe is also developed. This control network has been applied in a joint program sponsored by SJTU and SAIC,and its feasibility and reliability are validated in this project.
