Precipitation of γ′-phase in a Nickel-base Single Crystal Superalloy with Electric Current

The effects of DC electric current on the precipitation of γ′-phase in a nickel-base single crystal superalloy were studied. Under the action of different electric currents, the superalloy was cooled in air after solution heat treatment at 1250 ℃ for 4 h, and some solution treated samples were aging treated at 850 ℃ for 24 h. The experiment results show that the size and volume fraction of γ′-phase increase with the increase of electric current density during the process of air cooling。During the aging process, the size of γ-phase increases as the electric current density rises. It is considered that the electromigration effect of the DC electric current accelerates the diffusion of atoms, which enhances the growth of γ′-phase.
