Couple Effects of Refiner and Magnetic Fields on Grain Refinement of Magnesium Alloys
This paper was aimed at studying the influence and the couple effects of electromagnetic fields and grain refiner on macro/micro structures of magnesium alloys. An electromagnetic continuous casting system and a protection system applied for magnesium alloys were designed and set up in this paper. Soft-contact electromagnetic casting (EMC) and high magnetic field have been performed in the processing of magnesium alloys, respectively. Under the optimized casting conditions, magnesium alloy billets with good quality are obtained. Refiner and magnetic fields can greatly refine the macrostructure of magnesium alloys while the external field can promote the refinement effects of the refiner. Grain refinement of refiner under high magnetic field also exists.
