EEG Evidence of Psychological Distance in pitch Perception
In this paper,an Electroencephalography(EEG)experiment was designed to investigate the variance of brain activities during listening to the music with different pitch levels. The music was played at five pitch levels, the original one(ORI),7 semitones low (7SL),7 semitones high(7SH),12 semitones low (12SL)and 12 semitones high(12SH).The results showed that in tonality transposition(7SL and 7SH),the Power Spectral Density(PSI)of 7SL was higher than 7SH,and ORI was minimum in θ,α1andβ1 frequency bands. While in the octave transposition, the 12SL PSD was higher than 12SH and the ORI in θ and α1.The differences were significant(P<0.05).The results indicated that the variance in pitch perception can be reflected by EEG,and depends on the psychological distance between transposed melodies and original one.
