A ANALYSIS OF EMPATHETIC UNDERSTANDING USING RELATION BETWEEN ELECTRODE AND FREQUENCY
Purpose of this study is to estimate the human emotions from brain activity of physiological phenomenon. Especially, we focus to empathic understanding which is physiological technique. Concretely, it is investigated by using electroencephalograph (EEG) that the brain is an active state when the subject own declaring to have been impressed. In this research, we compared subjective from questionnaire and objective from EEG. The result of experiment showed to be able to be judged to having empathic understanding from objective evaluation by the brain waves. A lot of studies about the technique to recognize human emotions objectively are made. Technology and technique to estimate human emotions are suggested from external information such as language, sound and facial expression and from physiological information such as temperature, sweat and heart rate. Purpose of this study is to estimate the human emotions from brain activity of physiological phenomenon. Especially, we focus to empathic-understanding1 which is psychological technique. Empathy should not be confused with sympathy. It does not involved identification with the client. This is clear Rogers’s defnition: Empathy is an acute, empathic understanding of the client’s world as seen from the inside. To sense the client’s private world as if it were your own, but without losing the ‘as if’ quality – this is empathy. If human emotion can understand objectively and empathize, itwill some help introduce to hospital and welfare. In this research, we propose technique to judge having empathic understanding or not which compared subjective emotions of the subjects to estimate from questionnaire and objective emotions of the subject to estimatefrom brain waves measured by EEG. Specifically, subjects watched trailer of the movies and assume baselines that watching trailer and compare the control group that did not give instructions with the experimental group whom we directed to empathic understanding. (Trailers are film advertisements for films that will be exhibited in the future at a cinema, on whose screen they are shown. Hereinafter referred to as trailer.)
